WHAT IS THE
"ALLIANCE TO IMPROVE MEDICARE?"
The Alliance to Improve Medicare (AIM) is a coalition of
organizations representing seniors, doctors, hospitals, patients, medical researchers and innovators, insurance plans and providers, small and large businesses and others dedicated to improving and
strengthening Medicare for all Americans.
AIM supported bipartisan efforts to strengthen and
improve Medicare to ensure more health care coverage choices, better benefits (including prescription drug benefits), and access to the latest in innovative medical practices and treatments though the
Medicare system.
Prior to enactment of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003, the structure of the traditional Medicare program had changed little since 1965, and, consequently, had not kept pace with many of the dramatic improvements in the delivery of health care. AIM coalition members worked to achieve the historic improvements to the Medicare program.
By focusing on quality of care rather than excessive government regulation, and injecting competition and choice into the program, AIM believes we can have a better Medicare program and one that
will be financially healthy well into the 21st century.
AIM works to achieve Medicare modernization through
outreach and educational programs for Members of Congress and staff, the media, and the American public.
Bipartisan Support for AIM Congressman Cal Dooley (D-CA): "The members of AIM agree
that...we must move toward comprehensive reform founded on principles of expanding choices for seniors..."
Senator Bill Frist (R-TN): "...the broadest coalition of groups yet - including
seniors, doctors, hospitals and others. This is a great sign we can tackle this issue."
Congressman Colin Peterson (D-MN): "The members of AIM are placing policy over politics by joining
together in an effort to improve the Medicare program for America's seniors."
Congressman Jim Greenwood (R-PA): "I am pleased this new coalition of groups has joined together to work
towards a goal we all share - improve the Medicare program for our seniors."
